THE 2011 ARTS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN MID-JULY
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
In 2009, the Imperial Tobacco Canada Foundation created the ARTS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD to honour sustained accomplishment by arts organizations in Canada. This Award of $75,000 is for an arts organization in Canada whose contribution to its art form, to the cultural life of Canada, to the public, and to artistic originality and innovation is found to be exemplary.
Each year, through a nominations process, the Foundation selects the recipient organization for the Arts Achievement Award on a rotating set of eligible categories each year, to ensure that each art form receives equal attention.
Organizations cannot apply for this award.
In 2010, the Arts Achievement Award was presented to La Compagnie Marie Chouinard for excellence in Dance. In 2009, the Award, for Visual Arts, went to Le Mois de la Photo in Montreal
THE 2011 CATEGORY: PERFORMING ARTS : SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAS AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRAS
In 2011, the Arts Achievement Award will be donated to an outstanding not-for-profit Canadian arts organization, operating for at least ten years, in the PERFORMING ARTS : SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAS AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRAS.
THE NOMINATION PROCESS
The Arts Achievement Award is selected through a nominations process. Arts Achievement Award nominees will be proposed by a team of peer professionals, whose expertise and credentials qualify them to assess the contribution of Canada's arts organizations. This expert national committee will be appointed by the Foundation. No other nominations will be considered.
Arts organizations may not nominate their own organization or another organization for consideration for the Arts Achievement Award.
All Canadian arts organizations in the eligible category of PERFORMING ARTS : SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAS AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRAS will be considered by the nominators in establishing a short list of six organizations by March, 2011.
If your organization is short-listed for the Arts Achievement Award, you will be notified and asked to provide any necessary additional documentation at that time. The list of nominees will be published in March, 2011. The Foundation's Review Committee will then further consider the short list and provide a recommendation to the Foundation's Board of Directors. The Foundation Board will make the final decision and the recipient of the Arts Achievement Award will be announced in June, 2011.
