OUR COMMUNITY
Imperial Tobacco Canada has been part of Montreal's South-West Community for over 100 years. We are proud to support local organizations which provide important and vital services to this community.
Continuing this tradition, and building on the focus established in 2009, the Imperial Tobacco Canada Foundation will continue to provide donations to innovative projects which meet the needs of this community.
HELPING OUR NEIGHBOURS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
In 2010, The Imperial Tobacco Canada Foundation announced its Montreal South-West Community Program. In 2011, the Foundation will continue to provide donations to organizations operating and offering services in the Montreal South-West including Lachine, LaSalle, Verdun, South West.
The Foundation will provide six donations of $20,000 each for projects which enhance community and public life through innovative and meaningful programs, events, and activities. While not exclusively, particular attention will be given to projects which offer support to the elderly.
This new program is available only to organizations operating in the Montreal South-West Community : Montreal South-West, Lachine-LaSalle-Verdun.
Applications must be submitted by the deadline and on-line, and must be for $20,000. Eligibility and Selection Criteria are presented below.

The Board of the Foundation will make the selection of the six recipients with an announcement in June 2011.
THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS APRIL 18, 2011
ELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS
- Canadian not-for profit organizations, recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency and incorporated for at least 2 years
- Organizations which provide services to the community and are situated and operate within the Montreal South-West Community (Lachine, LaSalle, Verdun, South West)
- Projects/Programs submitted must take place between September 1, 2011 and December 31, 2012
- One eligible organization may partner for a project with another eligible organization to submit a joint application for a $20,000 donation but one organization must take the lead and submit the application
LIMITATIONS
- Donations will not be provided for organizations or projects aimed at or involving those under 19 years of age
- Projects cannot be for individual or private pursuits, conferences, seminars or fundraising events
- Elementary and, secondary schools, CEGEPS, religious organizations, advocacy groups of a particular religion, social or political point of view are not eligible
- Organizations outside Canada are not eligible
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
- Projects or programs, submitted by an eligible organization, which aim to enhance community and public life through innovative programs and events will be considered
- Examples of Eligible Projects could include but are not limited to:
- Food banks and shelter initiatives
- Innovative community center programs
- Services for the elderly, for example, home care
- Cultural or educational programs in the community, with a particular regard for those aimed at the elderly
- Rehab and reentry programs, addiction services
- Improvement of public spaces
- Support for entrepreneurship in the community
SELECTION CRITERIA
A. Project Criteria
- The uniqueness of the project rather than on-going activities of the organization
- The innovative quality of the project within the community and/or the organization
- The participation of the clientele to be served in developing the project
- The short, medium and long term results of the project
- A specific three year plan for the project
- The project must take place within the Montreal South West community and address the population of the South-west community
B. Organizational Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to carry out the project
- Commitment to the project
- Administrative and organizational capability:
- Financial health
- Governance
- Financial capacity to undertake the project
